Clemson (2-0) vs Georgia Southern (2-0) Game Preview
One Reason Why Georgia Southern Will Win
It’s possible Clemson’s mind isn’t fully focused on the task at hand.
There’s the little issue of the hurricane – which doesn’t look like it’s going to affect the area too much, but will be home to a whole slew of people fleeing the coastline.
The Tigers are also coming off the emotional fight against Texas A&M, and they have the ACC opener against Georgia Tech to follow.
Granted, the two games were against South Carolina State and UMass, but but the Eagle running game has been terrific, cranking up more than 300 yards in both games and averaging close to six yards per carry.
With this type of attack, there’s always the off chance that the opposing defense just can’t hit the curveball on the right day.
It seems like a million years ago now, but Georgia Southern is the program that hit Alabama’s national championship defense for 302 yards back in 2011 – only two other teams hit the 100-yard mark – and ran for 429 yards in a 2013 win over a Florida defense that only gave up more than 200 yards to one other offense.
One Reason Why Clemson Will Win
The amazing Tiger defensive front hasn’t been impenetrable so far, but it hasn’t been all that far off.
Furman and Texas A&M both averaged around 2.2 yards per carry, and the Tigers have yet to allow a rushing touchdown. Georgia Southern is trying to throw the ball a wee bit more, but … no. This is a running team trying to go against an all-timer of a front four.
There’s a chance the Eagle O really, really doesn’t work.
On the other side, the Georgia Southern defensive front doesn’t generate enough pressure. The pass rush hasn’t done much, and there isn’t a whole lot of movement in the backfield. It’s been all good – the run defense has been terrific so far – but give Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence time, and they’ll carve up the Eagle secondary.
